In your first year you will carry out a range of general duties such as domestic issues, car accidents, robbery and stealing offences plus serious assaults and even encountering deceased people.

You will need good English and communication skills to write reports or speak with colleagues and sometimes media about events that have happened.

You will also have to take witness statements which need to be accurate and understandable.

A literacy assessment is built into the application process if you are successful.

Police officers are required to be honest, reliable and work as part of a team.

If you like helping people, are mentally resilient and can stay calm in difficult situations then this might be the job for you.

People will come up to you on street and thank you whole heartedly for the job that you do.
